Open source has already made its mark when it comes to Voice over IP, but one may ask whether it can deliver the goods when used in business enterprises. The prevalent idea that open source software entails no cost is not correct. One may not pay for the actual source code, but similar to any IT project, significant costs have to be incurred for hardware, deployment, training and maintenance. Open source has made significant inroads into the business world and that too successfully. Software such as MySQL database, SugerCRM customer relationship management suite, Apache web server, Red Hat Linux operating system and Joomla! Content management system are all open source and running in many business enterprises.
